Use Case - Enhancing Product Security Without Changing the Label: A Collaboration Between Tadbik and Scodix
This collaboration between Tadbik and Scodix demonstrates how RFID can be embedded directly into complex, high-performance labels without altering design, production workflows, or logistics. By integrating HF RFID invisibly within an existing ink label, Scodix strengthened authentication and anti-counterfeiting measures while preserving brand integrity and operational continuity.

What’s Happening Across AIM Committees
AIM committees continue to advance critical work across RFID, symbology, visibility, digital product passports, and key industry verticals. Below is a snapshot of current initiatives and how members and non-members can get involved.
RFID Experts Group (REG)
The RFID Experts Group is actively progressing several foundational and forward-looking initiatives. Current efforts include updates to RFID 101 educational materials and glossary content for broader industry use, completion of edits to an RFID-related AIM document (REG 396), and continued refinement of RFID data content guidance. The group is also collaborating on a retail-focused RFID FAQ and advancing new whitepapers addressing RFID security and privacy, as well as educational primers comparing RFID-related technologies such as BLE, NFC, and UWB within an AIDC context. These technology primers are planned as an interactive web resource to help users understand use cases and differences.
Next call: Thursday, January 29 at 3:00 PM ET
Technical Symbology Committee (TSC)
The Technical Symbology Committee is deeply engaged in standards development and verification best practices. Current projects include work on a new symbology standard now in ballot (Ultracode), development of standardized fixed pattern damage test symbols to improve barcode verifier consistency, and creation of guidance addressing machine learning–based barcode decoding. The committee is also finalizing a healthcare-focused one-pager to ensure camera-based barcode scanners are properly configured to output required symbology identifiers.
Next call: Tuesday, January 27 at 9:00 AM ET
Visibility Technologies Industry Group
VTIG is focused on advancing practical visibility and traceability resources. Ongoing work includes revising a foundational track-and-trace document and developing visual supply chain graphics that illustrate how multiple AIDC technologies interact across a product’s lifecycle. The group is also monitoring and preparing to engage with developments related to the FCC Cybersecurity Labeling Program, including forthcoming public comment opportunities tied to technical standards and testing requirements.
Next call: Friday, January 30 at 11:00 AM ET
Digital Product Passport (DPP) Task Force
The DPP Task Force continues its work reviewing emerging international standards relevant to AIDC technologies. The group has submitted formal comments through the German standards process and is awaiting feedback before scheduling its next meeting. This work supports AIM’s broader advocacy and education efforts around global digital product passport requirements.
Next call: To be scheduled
Get Involved
Participation in AIM committees and task forces is open to members, and non-members are welcome to attend select meetings to learn more. If you are interested in joining a call, contributing to a project, or learning more about any of these initiatives, please contact Mike Allen to get connected.

RAIN Alliance FCC Submission on RAIN RFID (UHF RFID) to NextNav Interference
The RAIN Alliance submitted an LS telcom technical study to the FCC showing that NextNav’s proposed high-power 5G/PNT operations in the 902–928 MHz band would cause, and suffer from, severe harmful interference with existing RAIN RFID systems. It contends that NextNav’s interference analysis is fundamentally flawed because it averages impacts over large areas, ignores real-world localized deployments (e.g., retail, logistics hubs, hospitals, airports), and examines only one-way interference.
The LS telcom study shows that dense RAIN RFID deployments would both disrupt NextNav’s downlink and completely block its uplink, rendering the proposed network effectively inoperable, while NextNav’s transmissions would also disrupt critical RFID applications. Accordingly, the RAIN Alliance urges the FCC to deny NextNav’s Petition for Rulemaking.
