Join the Next Visibility Technologies Industry Group Meeting: U.S. Cyber Trust Mark Discussion

Grace Burkard

Director of Operations - ioXt Alliance

AIM members are invited to join the next Visibility Technologies Industry Group meeting on September 2nd at 11 AM ET, featuring special guest Grace Burkard, Director of Operations at ioXt Alliance.

Grace will provide an overview of the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark Program and discuss ioXt Alliance's involvement in the initiative, as well as what the program could mean for connected products, IoT technologies, manufacturers, solution providers, and the broader AIDC community.

As connected devices become increasingly important throughout supply chains, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, logistics, and other industries, cybersecurity requirements are becoming an important part of product development and deployment. The discussion will give AIM members an opportunity to better understand the Cyber Trust Mark program, ask questions, and consider how cybersecurity initiatives may intersect with identification, data capture, IoT, and visibility technologies.

The Visibility Technologies Industry Group brings together AIM members interested in technologies and standards that improve the identification, tracking, and exchange of information about products, assets, and materials throughout the supply chain.

The September 2nd meeting will also include updates on current group activities and a discussion of future regulatory and compliance priorities.

AIM members interested in cybersecurity, IoT, connected products, regulatory developments, or supply chain visibility are encouraged to participate.

This two-day event will help organizations understand what the transition to 2D barcodes means for scanning, printing, data management, software, packaging, traceability and business operations. Through educational sessions, case studies and panel discussions, attendees will learn why preparation is needed now, where common readiness gaps can occur and how companies can successfully plan for implementation while 1D and 2D barcodes continue to coexist. Sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations looking to increase their visibility, demonstrate industry leadership and connect their brand with professionals preparing for the next generation of barcode capabilities.

Reach out to Michael Allen if you would like to learn more about the event and sponsorship opportunities.

Turning the 2D Migration into Business Value: Call for Speakers Now Open

Mike Allen, AIM Global

The transition to 2D barcodes is quickly becoming one of the most important changes affecting product identification, data capture, retail, manufacturing, supply chain operations, and consumer engagement. As organizations prepare for the continued evolution toward GS1 Sunrise 2027, the conversation is moving beyond simply replacing traditional 1D barcodes. Companies are beginning to ask a much bigger question: How can the move to 2D create real business value?

AIM Global will explore that question during its upcoming Barcode Community Connect: Turning the 2D Migration Into Business Value, taking place virtually November 9–10, 2026.

Remembering Jerry Swartz: The Quiet Visionary Who Changed How the World Shops and Ships

Our industry lost a true giant this month with the passing of Jerry Swartz, the co-founder of Symbol Technologies. If you have ever scanned an item at a store register or watched a warehouse run on mobile devices, you have used Jerry's work. He did not just build gadgets. He changed how the entire world moves goods and runs supply chains. Jerry held more than 180 U.S. patents. He gave us handheld laser barcode scanners, enterprise

mobile computers, and early Wi-Fi networks. His brilliance even earned Symbol the National Medal of Technology. Beyond technology, Jerry cared deeply about science. Through the Swartz Foundation, he gave generous support to neuroscience research, pushing human knowledge forward in a profound way. He was a pioneer and a kind leader whose work touched countless lives. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, his friends, and everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Help Shape AIM's Regulatory and Compliance Priorities

AIM's Visibility Technologies Industry Group is asking members to help identify the regulatory and compliance issues that should guide future AIM educational programs, resources, and collaborative projects.

The group has developed a brief survey covering emerging requirements and initiatives related to areas including traceability, product identification, sustainability, healthcare, food safety, 2D barcodes, Digital Product Passports, cybersecurity, and other regulatory developments affecting the AIDC industry.

Member feedback will help AIM better understand which issues are creating the greatest opportunities, challenges, and uncertainty for organizations throughout the industry.

The goal is to use the survey results to narrow the group's focus to a manageable set of priority initiatives that could lead to future:

  • Educational webinars and industry discussions

  • Guidance documents and technical resources

  • Regulatory updates

  • Collaborative industry projects

  • New working groups or ad hoc initiatives

  • Outreach to regulators, standards organizations, and other industry partners

Survey results and recommended next steps will be reviewed during the September 2 Visibility Technologies Industry Group meeting.

Members are encouraged to complete the survey before the meeting so their organization's priorities can be included in the discussion.

Take a few minutes to complete the survey and help AIM determine where the industry should focus next.

Global Robot Safety Standards Explained: What You Need to Know About Regional Differences

Industrial robot safety standards like ISO 10218, ANSI/A3 R15.06, and CSA Z434 share a unified objective: safeguarding industrial personnel despite regional nomenclature differences. To help clarify these regulatory frameworks and navigate regional differences, Chris Soranno, Functional Safety Expert (TÜV Rheinland) and Manager of International Safety Standards at SICK Sensor Intelligence, provides an expert breakdown of these standards.

  • The Basics: These safety codes protect people who work near industrial robots. They all started from the same core rules.

  • Global Rules: The updated ISO 10218 standard creates consistent safety guidelines for robot makers and system builders around the world.

  • New User Rules: New updates like ANSI/A3 R15.06 Part 3 and CSA Z434.1 provide clear, direct safety best practices for the everyday operators of robot work cells.
