The GS1 Application Identifier 8009 with AIM Sensor Descriptor Type 02 is used with a common type of colorimetric temperature sensor, Time-Temperature Indicators (TTI), which integrate the cumulative exposure. The progressive sensor color change on the barcode label is used as a proxy to forecast the remaining viable life (safe usage life) of labeled product. TTIs are used in quality and safety monitoring of fresh foods, frozen foods and healthcare items in order to forecast their remaining shelf or useful life.
