The Technical Symbology Committee (TSC) made several substantial updates to the standard. Changes were made to the interpretative Character Set so that the reference titles reflect the most recent editions of ISO/IEC documents. Examples of barcode samples and scanned results were added to portions of the document . An Informative Annex was added to the document to showcase how the ECI protocol supports multiple segments in the input data from one-dimensional barcode and two-dimensional barcodes, each denoting a specific character encoding.
Shi Yu, the TSC project editor for this update, shared his thoughts on the importance of this document.
“AIM’s ECI is an industry accepted standard protocol that can make barcode, 2d barcode and other AIDC technologies speak different languages and travel globally. It will be very important and useful for cross-country and multi-culture AIDC applications.”
